St. Joseph YMCA to hold dedication ceremony tonight

The St. Joseph YMCA will hold a dedication ceremony this evening for a newly constructed shade structure at the North Campus YMCA.

CEO of the St. Joseph YMCA, Sue White, says the shade structure was funded from the Missouri Dermatological Society in collaboration with the American Academy of Dermatology's 'Adopt-a-Shade' program. The shade structure will protect children and their families each day from the sun's ultraviolet rays when they use the Y's Purpose Garden. White says tonight's event highlights the need to take care of your skin to avoid skin cancer.

"Really have some dignitary event from the American Academy of Dermatology and they will be providing some comments around the importance of sun protection.  And then we will actually dedicate the shade at that time.  The Purpose Garden is a memorial to Erin Hook, a young lady that was killed in a car accident some years back.  She had a passion for kids so this is an additional piece to the Purpose Garden that makes sense in tribute to her."

The Purpose Garden at the St. Joseph North YMCA opened March 30th, 2017. Tonight's shade structure dedication gets underway at six o'clock.
